Bill started with the Sheriff’s Office in 1987 as a deputy sheriff and then worked up through the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office until being elected as Sheriff in 2016 and then re-elected in 2020. Bill is currently President for the Missouri Sheriff’s Association. Bill attended Missouri Western where he earned degrees in Criminal Justice and History. Bill continued his education at the University of Central Missouri where he earned his master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Bill has attended several extensive training programs including the National Sheriff’s Institute and was a certified Medicolegal Death Investigator.
Bill has worked numerous complex criminal investigations, including some throughout Northwest Missouri as an investigator with the Major Case Squad. Since 1995 Bill serves as a senior instructor with the Missouri Western Regional Law Enforcement Academy and as an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at Missouri Western, as well as, also having served as a Site Coordinator/Senior Instructor for the Missouri Sheriff’s Association Academy. Bill is the criminal investigation subject matter expert for Missouri POST, an executive member of the Law Enforcement Coordination Committee at the US Attorney’s Office, as well as, sitting on numerous state and local committees advancing law enforcement and service to the community. Bill also enjoys volunteering at Camp Quality and helping mentor at the St. Joseph School District.
Bill enjoys spoiling his 3 grandkids every chance that he gets and has recently started taking guitar lessons.
